Ugly is what people say: “We came to him once,
but his kindness was scant; he gave no help.”

If you give nothing to the poor person, then there appears
to him on your face the look of one who turns away indifferently.

And never feel secure against the turns of fortune, for they
can reduce the lions of the forest to mere cats.
