Time's later days efface its earliest.

So let no one prolong my weariness with this reproach.

Life's disease is ancient; it has no cure.

Hippocrates was not free from sickness and ailments.

Those are the Jews: is there anyone to turn them back?

And the Sabians—each is ignorant and wayward.

And humankind ranges from increase to extinction,

like wild beasts between drought and plenty.

They have not proved their religion's foundation by logical inference,

so as to judge between Rafidis and Nasibis.

The Corner Stone, according to people I do not name, is nothing

but a remnant of idols and cult-stones.

    ماشاءَ فَلَيَأتِ إِنَّ الشَهدَ كَالصابِ

    I never ask my time to undo a stumble;

let it bring whatever it wills: honey is like bitter sap.
