لَقَد هَجَمَ الزَمانُ عَلى تَميمٍ

لَقَد هَجَمَ الزَمانُ عَلى تَميمٍ

بِأَجمَعِهِم فَمَن آلُ الهُجَيمِ

بِأَجمَعِهِم فَمَن آلُ الهُجَيمِ

Time has indeed assailed Tamim,

all of them—so what of the house of al-Hujaym?

فَما حَمَتِ السُروجُ ظُبى سُرَيجٍ

فَما حَمَتِ السُروجُ ظُبى سُرَيجٍ

وَلا لُجُمُ الجِيادِ بَني لُجَيمِ

وَلا لُجُمُ الجِيادِ بَني لُجَيمِ

So saddles did not protect Surayj’s sword-edges,

nor did the bridles of fine steeds protect the sons of Lujaym.
