أَقَرّوا بِالإِلَهِ وَأَثبَتوهُ

أَقَرّوا بِالإِلَهِ وَأَثبَتوهُ

وَقالوا لا نَبِيَّ وَلا كِتابُ

وَقالوا لا نَبِيَّ وَلا كِتابُ

They acknowledged God and affirmed His existence,

and said, “There is no prophet and no scripture,

وَوَطءُ بَناتِنا حِلٌّ مُباحٌ

وَوَطءُ بَناتِنا حِلٌّ مُباحٌ

رُوَيدَكُمُ فَقَد بَطَلَ العِتابُ

رُوَيدَكُمُ فَقَد بَطَلَ العِتابُ

and intercourse with our daughters is lawful and permitted.”

Easy now, all of you, for reproach has become futile.

تَمادَوا في العِتابِ وَلَم يَتوبوا

تَمادَوا في العِتابِ وَلَم يَتوبوا

وَلَو سَمِعوا صَليلَ السَيفِ تابوا

وَلَو سَمِعوا صَليلَ السَيفِ تابوا

They persisted in reproach and did not repent;

yet had they heard the sword’s clang, they would have repented.
