    The world on high has an influence plain to see

    In the earthly world, among wild beasts and humankind.

    For the solitary stars that retreat and hide—their Creator

    Ordains the abasement of snub-nosed beasts in their lairs.

    فَكَيفَ نَخلو مِنَ الأَقذارِ وَالدَنَسِ

    Indeed, in my God's knowledge, we are all unclean;

    How, then, can we be free of filth and defilement?

    Would that the Pleiades' jeweled sashes had never adorned a horizon,

    And her earring had never swayed above the ear of the west.
