The richest of mortals is a pious man on a mountain's heights,

who is content with little and refuses embroidered finery and the crown.

And the poorest of people in their worldly life is a king,

who finds himself in need of a vast, clamorous army.

And I have learned that death does not spare

a lion in Khiffan or a gazelle in Firtaj.
