The old man grew drunk and kept thinking that

Youth had returned and a dry bone had softened.

And, when it neared his white hair, it seemed like

Red anemones mingling with daisy blossoms.

And he thinks it the Friend's harmless fire,

And a seeker of fire nearly takes a flame from its glow.

It smiled at him while mocking him,

When he sipped it, bent askew and frowning.

People are not people when their appearance changes.

Say what you will, for the dwellings are barren wastes.

No threadbare cloak has worn me down except youth,

And other clothing of mine has indeed been torn apart.

    فَمَضى الصِحابُ وَأَنتَ ثاوٍ حابِسُ

    Fates have confined you, turning you away from your hopes;

So the companions have departed, while you linger, staying behind.
