فَوارِسُ الدَهرِ جاءَت تَسبِقُ النُذُرا

فَوارِسُ الدَهرِ جاءَت تَسبِقُ النُذُرا

كَأَنَّما هِيَ خَيلٌ تَنفُضُ العُذُرا

كَأَنَّما هِيَ خَيلٌ تَنفُضُ العُذُرا

The horsemen of Time have come, outrunning every warning,

The horsemen of Time have come, outstripping the warnings,

as though they were horses shaking off their bridles.

As though they were horses shaking their bridles.

فَاِجعَل شِعارَكَ حَمدَ اللَهِ تَذكُرُهُ

فَاِجعَل شِعارَكَ حَمدَ اللَهِ تَذكُرُهُ

في كُلِّ دَهرِكَ وَاِستَشعِر بِهِ حَذَرا

في كُلِّ دَهرِكَ وَاِستَشعِر بِهِ حَذَرا

So make the praise of God your innermost garb, remembering Him

So make the praise of God your watchword, remembering Him

throughout your life, and clothe yourself through it in vigilance.

Throughout all your life, and through it take caution to heart.

وَاِعذِر سِواكَ فَأَمّا النَفسُ أَن جُرَمَت

وَاِعذِر سِواكَ فَأَمّا النَفسُ أَن جُرَمَت

فَاِنقَم عَلَيها وَلا تَقبَل لَها عُذُرا

فَاِنقَم عَلَيها وَلا تَقبَل لَها عُذُرا

Pardon everyone but yourself; if the soul does wrong,

And excuse others; but as for your own soul, if it sins,

punish it, and accept no excuse on its behalf.

Then chastise it, and accept no excuses for it.

وَكَثرَةُ القَولِ دَلَّت أَنَّ صاحِبَها

وَكَثرَةُ القَولِ دَلَّت أَنَّ صاحِبَها

أَلغى وَبَذَّر فَاِهجُر وَاِتَّقِ البُذُرا

أَلغى وَبَذَّر فَاِهجُر وَاِتَّقِ البُذُرا

A profusion of words reveals that the one who speaks them

And abundant speech has shown that its speaker

talks vainly and squanders words; shun him, and beware such squanderers.

Has spoken idly and squandered; so shun him and beware of squanderers.

فَإِنَّ في الطَيرِ ذا ريشٍ بِهِ ضَرَعٌ

فَإِنَّ في الطَيرِ ذا ريشٍ بِهِ ضَرَعٌ

إِذا أَفاقَ أَطالَ النَطقَ وَالهَذَرا

إِذا أَفاقَ أَطالَ النَطقَ وَالهَذَرا

For among the birds is a feathered creature beset by weakness:

For among birds is a feathered creature afflicted with weakness;

when it recovers, it spins out speech and idle chatter.

When it comes to, it prolongs its speech and babbling.
