أَفارِسَO horseman مِقنَبٍa cavalry troop وَأَميرَand emir مِصرٍEgypt
أَفارِسَ مِقنَبٍ وَأَميرَ مِصرٍ
نَزَلتَyou descended عَنِfrom الكُمَيتِthe bay steed إِلىto الكُمَيتِthe dark-red wine
نَزَلتَ عَنِ الكُمَيتِ إِلى الكُمَيتِ
O horseman of a cavalry troop and emir of Egypt,
You descended from the bay steed to the dark-red wine.
فَتِلكَfor that one حَميدَةٌpraiseworthy آدَتكَstrengthened you حَيّاًalive
فَتِلكَ حَميدَةٌ آدَتكَ حَيّاً
وَهَذيand this one أَشعَرَتكَmade you feel خُفوتَthe stillness مَيتِa dead man
وَهَذي أَشعَرَتكَ خُفوتَ مَيتِ
For that praiseworthy steed strengthened you in life;
And this wine made you feel a dead man's stillness.
