تَضاعَفَdoubled هَمّيmy sorrow أَنthat أَتَتنيcame to me مَنيَّتيmy death
تَضاعَفَ هَمّي أَن أَتَتني مَنيَّتي
وَلَمand had not تُقضَbeen fulfilled حاجيmy needs بِالمَطاياby the mounts الرَواقِصِswaying
وَلَم تُقضَ حاجي بِالمَطايا الرَواقِصِ
My sorrow doubled when my death came to me,
My troubles have doubled, now that my wish has come to me
while my needs remained unmet by the swaying mounts.
Yet my needs are not met, despite the prancing horses
وَماand not عالَميmy world إِنif عِشتُI live فيهِin it بِزائِدٍany greater
وَما عالَمي إِن عِشتُ فيهِ بِزائِدٍ
وَلاand not هُوَit إِنif أُلقيتُI am cast مِنهُout of it بِناقِصِany less
وَلا هُوَ إِن أُلقيتُ مِنهُ بِناقِصِ
And my world, if I live in it, is no greater,
Whether I live in this world with more or less
nor is it, if I am cast out of it, any less.
Or depart from it with more or less, what matter?
