أَطرِق كَأَنَّكَ في الدُنيا بِلا نَظَرٍ

أَطرِق كَأَنَّكَ في الدُنيا بِلا نَظَرٍ

وَاِصمُت كَأَنَّكَ مَخلوقٌ بِغَيرِ فَمِ

وَاِصمُت كَأَنَّكَ مَخلوقٌ بِغَيرِ فَمِ

Lower your head, as though you were in this world without sight.

Bow down as if you see nothing in this world,

And keep silent, as though you were created without a mouth.

And keep silent as if you were created without a mouth.

وَإِن هَمَمتَ بِمينٍ فَاِتَّخِذ لُفَماً

وَإِن هَمَمتَ بِمينٍ فَاِتَّخِذ لُفَماً

مُضاعَفاتٍ لِتَثني اللَفظَ بِاللُفَمِ

مُضاعَفاتٍ لِتَثني اللَفظَ بِاللُفَمِ

And if you intend to lie, take veils for your mouth,

If you intend evil, take a bridle

Layer upon layer, to hold back speech with the veils.

With doubled reins to restrain the word with the mouth.
