سِواءٌall the same عَلىto هَذاthis الحِمامِdeath أَضَيغَماًwhether a lion
أَزارَit sent to visit المَناياthe fates of death أَمor تَوَفّىit claimed in death بِهاthrough them دِرصاa young mouse
It is all the same to this Death whether a lion
it sends to meet death, or by death claims a young mouse.
فَإِنfor if تَترُكواyou leave alone المَوتَdeath الطَبيعيَّnatural يَأتِكُمit will come to you
وَلَمand did not تَستَعينواyou seek aid from لاneither حُساماًa sharp sword وَلاnor خِرصَاa spear
For if you leave natural death alone, it will come to you,
without your seeking aid from either a sharp sword or a spear.
وَكانَand there was لَكُمfor you حِرصٌeagerness عَلىfor العَيشِlife بَيِّنٌevident
فَماso what لَكُمis with you حِمتُمyou hovered عَلىover ضِدِّهِits opposite حِرصاout of eagerness
And your eagerness for life was plain;
so why have you hovered eagerly over its opposite?
