إِنَّ الطَبيبَ وَذا التَنجيمِ ما فَتِئا

إِنَّ الطَبيبَ وَذا التَنجيمِ ما فَتِئا

مُشَهَّرَينِ بِتَقويمٍ وَكُنّاشِ

مُشَهَّرَينِ بِتَقويمٍ وَكُنّاشِ

Indeed, the physician and the astrologer have remained

The doctor and astrologer never cease

renowned for an almanac and a medical compendium.

Wielding their calendars and almanacs,

يُعَلِّلانِ وَفي التَعليلِ مَأرَبَةٌ

يُعَلِّلانِ وَفي التَعليلِ مَأرَبَةٌ

وَيَستَميلانِ قَلبَ المُترَفِ الناشي

وَيَستَميلانِ قَلبَ المُترَفِ الناشي

They offer reassurance, and in reassurance there is an aim,

Giving reasons while fabricating causes,

And they win over the heart of the pampered youth.

And swaying the heart of the heedless rake.
