لَقَد تَرَفَّعَ فَوقَ المُشتَري زُحَلٌ

لَقَد تَرَفَّعَ فَوقَ المُشتَري زُحَلٌ

فَأَصبَحَ الشَرُّ فينا ظاهِرَ الغَلَبِ

فَأَصبَحَ الشَرُّ فينا ظاهِرَ الغَلَبِ

Indeed, Saturn has risen above Jupiter,

Saturn has risen above Jupiter

so evil has become plainly dominant among us.

So evil among us is dominant

وَإِنَّ كَيوانَ وَالمِرّيخَ ما بَقِيا

وَإِنَّ كَيوانَ وَالمِرّيخَ ما بَقِيا

لا يُخلِيانِكَ مِن فَجَعٍ وَمِن سَلَبِ

لا يُخلِيانِكَ مِن فَجَعٍ وَمِن سَلَبِ

And indeed, Kaywan and Mars, so long as they endure,

And neither Mars nor Mercury remain

will not leave you free of bereavement and plunder.

To spare you from agony and plunder

وَكَم طَلَبتَ أُموراً لَستَ مُدرِكَها

وَكَم طَلَبتَ أُموراً لَستَ مُدرِكَها

تَبارَكَ اللَهَ مَن أَغراكَ بِالطَلَبِ

تَبارَكَ اللَهَ مَن أَغراكَ بِالطَلَبِ

And how many things you have sought that you cannot attain!

How many things you sought that are beyond reach

Blessed be God! Who has enticed you to seek?

Blessed is God who deluded you with seeking

أَما رَأَيتَ رِجالاً بَعدَ شُربِهِمُ

أَما رَأَيتَ رِجالاً بَعدَ شُربِهِمُ

في النَضرِ يَرضونَ أَن أَن يُسقَوا مِنَ العُلَبِ

في النَضرِ يَرضونَ أَن أَن يُسقَوا مِنَ العُلَبِ

Have you not seen men who, after drinking

Have you not seen men after their drinking

from gold vessels, are content to be given drink from wooden bowls?

Happy to be served wine from jugs?

وَما أَمِنتُ زَماني في تَصَرُّفِهِ

وَما أَمِنتُ زَماني في تَصَرُّفِهِ

أَن يَنقُلَ المُلكَ مِن مِصرٍ إِلى حَلَبِ

أَن يَنقُلَ المُلكَ مِن مِصرٍ إِلى حَلَبِ

And I have not trusted my time, in all its changes,

I did not trust my time in its course

not to transfer sovereignty from Egypt to Aleppo.

That it would shift the kingdom from Egypt to Aleppo
