If your mouths proclaim God's oneness, your hearts

and your souls shrink from fulfilling what is due.

I swear: your Torah sheds no light

if dark-red wine is found permitted in it.

Do not feel safe from the clouds' lightning, for

those are but swords unsheathed by fate.

So spoke sound reflection on events,

which made hardships manageable through caution.

    وَيَهودُ حارَت وَالمَجوسُ مُضَلَّلَه

    The Hanif faith has stumbled, and the Christians have found no guidance;

and the Jews are bewildered, and the Magians are misled.

Earth's people are of two kinds: one with reason but without

religion, and another devout, who has no reason.
