إِن طابَ خَيمُكَ في الدُنيا فَلا تَخِمِ

إِن طابَ خَيمُكَ في الدُنيا فَلا تَخِمِ

وَلا تَضَنَّ بِمَقتولٍ عَلى الرَخَمِ

وَلا تَضَنَّ بِمَقتولٍ عَلى الرَخَمِ

If your character is good in this world, do not turn foul.

If your tent is pitched well in this life, do not fret

And do not begrudge the vultures a slain body.

And do not be stingy towards the slain atop the sands

فَالجِسمُ إِن زايَلَتهُ الروحُ صارَ لَقىً

فَالجِسمُ إِن زايَلَتهُ الروحُ صارَ لَقىً

كَلّاً عَلى القَومِ ما فيهِ مِنَ الضَخَمِ

For the body, if the soul leaves it, becomes a cast-off,

For the body, once the soul has left it, becomes but carrion

All its bulk a burden upon the people.
