1. إِذا ما شِئتُمُ دَعَةً وَخَفضاً

    فَعيشوا في البَرِيَّةِ خامِلينا

    If you wish for ease and comfort,

    Then live unnoticed among humankind.

  2. وَلا يُعقَد لَكُم أَمَلٌ بِخَلقٍ

    وَبيتوا لِلمُهَيمِن آمِلينا

    And let no hope of yours be bound to any creature,

    And spend your nights hoping in the Protector.

  3. وَرِفقاً بِالأَصاغِرِ كَي يَقولوا

    غَدَونا بِالجَميلِ مُعامِلينا

    And be gentle with the little ones, so they may say:

    "We have become kind in our dealings."

  4. فَأَطفالُ الأَكابِرِ إِن يُوَقّوا

    يُرَوا يَوماً رِجالاً كامِلينا

    For the children of the great, if kept safe,

    Will one day be seen as fully grown men,

  5. وَنودوا في إِمارَتِهِم فَجَفّوا

    وَعادوا لِلثَقائِلِ حامِلينا

    And, called upon during their rule, will grow harsh,

    And become bearers of heavy burdens.

  6. وَلا تُبدوا عَداوَتَكُم لِقَومٍ

    أَتَوكُم في الحَياةِ مُجامِلينا

    And do not show your enmity toward people

    Who came to you in life with courtesy.

  7. وَلا تُرضَوا بِأَن تُدعَوا وُشاةً

    وَتَسعَوا بِالأَقارِبِ نامِلينا

    And do not be content to be called tale-bearers,

    Nor go about spreading tales against your kin.

  8. وَقَد جارَ القُضاةُ إِذا أَشاروا

    بِأَيسَرِ نَظرَةٍ مُتَحامِلينا

    And judges have indeed acted unjustly when they signaled

    With the slightest glance, showing partiality.

  9. لَعَلَّ مَعاشِراً في الأَرضِ جوزوا

    بِما كانوا قَديماً عامِلينا

    Perhaps peoples on earth were requited

    For what they used to do long ago.
