إِذاif أَثنىpraises عَليَّupon me المَرءُa man يَوماًone day
بِخَيرٍfor goodness لَيسَis not فِيَّin me فَذاكَthen that man هاجِa satirist
If a man praises me one day
for goodness not in me, then he is a satirist.
وَحَقِيَّand by my right إِنif أَساءَhe does wrong بِماthrough what إِفتَراهُhe fabricated it
فَلُؤمٌthen baseness مِنfrom غَريزَتِيَmy innate nature اِبتِهاجيmy delight
And by my right, if he does wrong through what he fabricates,
then my delight is baseness springing from my nature.
