رَأَيتُ جَماعاتٍ مِنَ الناسِ أولِعَت

رَأَيتُ جَماعاتٍ مِنَ الناسِ أولِعَت

بِإِثباتِ أَشياءَ اِستَحالَ ثُبوتُها

بِإِثباتِ أَشياءَ اِستَحالَ ثُبوتُها

I saw groups of people obsessed

I saw groups of people obsessed

with proving things impossible to establish.

With proving things impossible to prove.

فَقَد أَخبَرَت عَن غَيِّها سَنَواتُها

فَقَد أَخبَرَت عَن غَيِّها سَنَواتُها

كَما أُخبِرَت آحادُها وَسُبوتُها

كَما أُخبِرَت آحادُها وَسُبوتُها

For their years have told of their error,

Their years have told of their misguidance,

just as their Sundays and Sabbaths were told of it.

As have their individuals and quiescence.

وَما هِيَ إِلّا النارُ توقَدُ مَرَّةً

وَما هِيَ إِلّا النارُ توقَدُ مَرَّةً

فَتَذكو وَتاراتٍ يَحينُ خُبوتُها

فَتَذكو وَتاراتٍ يَحينُ خُبوتُها

And they are nothing but fire, kindled at one time,

It is but a fire kindled at times

then blazing up, while at other times its dying down is due.

That recalls eras whose dormancy returns.
