I have lived on, yet I do not know what is unseen.

Perhaps the one who departs is nearer to God.

The soul desires to live on for fear of death,

yet a person's long life is a tried and tested poison.

    All peoples pass through death,

those settled with their kin and those who go abroad.

The earth is merely like us: it seeks sustenance,

so it eats and drinks of this human race.

And they have even lied about the sun, claiming that it

is humiliated when sunrise comes, and struck.

As though a crescent had appeared to pierce them,

bent by death—a tried and tested spearhead.

As though the light of dawn were a sword unsheathed

against them by a morning honed with deaths.
