لا أُشرِكُ الجَديَ في دَرٍّ يَعيشُ بِهِ

لا أُشرِكُ الجَديَ في دَرٍّ يَعيشُ بِهِ

وَلا أَروعُ بَناتِ الوَحشِ وَالضانِ

وَلا أَروعُ بَناتِ الوَحشِ وَالضانِ

I do not share with the kid the milk on which it lives,

Nor do I frighten the daughters of wild beasts and sheep.

وَلا أَقولُ لِجارٍ لَم يَجِئ خَطَأً

وَلا أَقولُ لِجارٍ لَم يَجِئ خَطَأً

إِن كانَ يَوماً بِحُسنِ الفِعلِ أَرضاني

إِن كانَ يَوماً بِحُسنِ الفِعلِ أَرضاني

Nor do I say of a neighbor, "He has done no wrong,"

Merely because he once pleased me with good deeds.

لَو يَنطِقُ السَيفُ نادى لَيسَ لي عَمَلٌ

لَو يَنطِقُ السَيفُ نادى لَيسَ لي عَمَلٌ

إِذا قَضى مالِكُ الأَفلاكِ أَنضاني

إِذا قَضى مالِكُ الأَفلاكِ أَنضاني

If the sword could speak, it would cry: "No action is mine;

When the Master of the spheres decrees, He unsheathes me.

مَتى أَرادَ فَصَفحايَ اللَذانِ هُما

مَتى أَرادَ فَصَفحايَ اللَذانِ هُما

بَحرُ الرَدى مِن حِياضِ المَوتِ حَوضاني

بَحرُ الرَدى مِن حِياضِ المَوتِ حَوضاني

Whenever He wills, my two faces, which are

A sea of doom, are two pools among the pools of death.

وَإِن كَهِمتُ فَأَمرُ اللَهِ أَكهَمَني

وَإِن كَهِمتُ فَأَمرُ اللَهِ أَكهَمَني

وَإِن مَضَيتُ فَأَمرُ اللَهِ أَمضاني

وَإِن مَضَيتُ فَأَمرُ اللَهِ أَمضاني

And if I grow blunt, God's command has blunted me;

And if I cut keenly, God's command has sharpened me."
