وَمالِهِ فَخَطَتهُ أَو تَخَطّاها
How often has a man sought the world with his strength
How often has man tried to possess the world
And his wealth, yet it passed him by, or he passed it by.
With his might and wealth, yet it eluded him,
وَقَدand perhaps يَرومُseeks ضَعيفٌa weak man نيلَattainment of آخِرَةٍthe hereafter
وَقَد يَرومُ ضَعيفٌ نيلَ آخِرَةٍ
فَلاso not يَشُكُّdoubts لَبيبٌa discerning man أَنthat سَيُعطاهاhe will be granted it
فَلا يَشُكُّ لَبيبٌ أَن سَيُعطاها
And a weak man may seek to attain the hereafter,
While a frail soul may yearn for the hereafter,
So no discerning man doubts that he will be granted it.
No wise man doubts it shall be granted to him.

And death assails lions sheltered in their lairs,
Death gallops after the stout lions
And the wide-eyed wild cattle between their lavender and their arta shrubs,
Snatching them midst their dens and mates.

And a woman with two earrings she counts among her ornaments—
The fair maid with twin ear-rings counting them,
Her two earrings have become payment for the woman who washes her corpse.
Has become a reward for the washer of the dead.
