How many a maiden, like the Pleiades in loftiness
And beauty, now has earth among her veils!
وَلِعُجبِهاand because of her conceit ماwhile قَرَّبَتshe drew close مِرآتَهاher mirror
نَزَّهتُI deemed too noble خِلّيmy friend عَنfor مَقاليmy saying عُجturn aside بِهاto her
And because of her conceit, while she still drew her mirror close,
I deemed my friend too noble for me to say, 'Stop by her.'
