darkness, and swiftly struck them with dreadful destruction.

With the contentment I have been granted, I would not be delighted
in life by the two kingdoms of Ghalib and Dhimar.

against a fate that refuses to consent to gambling.

The young man goes forth, horses in his right hand's possession,
yet seems to go forth with a donkey's mind.

from being planted with trees that bear no fruit.

A forebear is no different from another who survives;
and the face of truth is known by signs.

And the world has sung with a single voice:
the gray ostrich can produce only its own cry.

And I drank a cup in youth, heedless,
then, after my hair turned gray, found an overwhelming hangover.

What ails this night, that it lasts so long, though it may seem
too short for a gathering of nighttime talkers?

You find the young man like the wind; if you entrust him
with a secret, it is divulged, and he becomes like a flute.

God's dominion has always been manifest, without cease,
even when Adam and his sons were still unmanifest.

calamities assailed me, and I failed to guard my charge.

their camels before dawn to cast pebbles.
