Flee from these creatures on the earth;
Flee from this wilderness in the land, for naught but evil comes from it
for nothing but their evil comes to you.
My motto is decisive, and it was the motto
فَشِعاريso my watchword قاطِعbreak ties وَكانَand was شِعاراًa watchword
لِتَنوخٍfor Tanukh فيin سالِفِbygone الدَهرِtime واصِلkeep ties
So my watchword is 'Break ties'; once the watchword
Of Tanukh in ages past, take heed
of Tanukh, in bygone days, was 'Keep ties.'
Seek your livelihood by passing through barren lands, not from slanderers and schemers
وَاِطلُبِand seek الرِزقَsustenance بِالمُرورِwith bitter fruits مِنfrom الشَجَthe trees (first fragment)

And seek sustenance in bitter fruits from the trees,
And emulate the birds at dawn, appearing gaunt
not from spearheads and swords.
And count adversity as times of harvest
وَتَشَبَّهand liken yourself بِالطَيرِto the birds تَغدوgo out early خِماصاًhungry

And emulate the birds, which go out hungry
and regard full crops as wealth.
