Fie on our world and its sorrows!

I have taken weight from the pan of its scales.

And that is an abode not to be trusted:

its predator is bent upon its treasurers.

On a square of a chessboard, it has made it easy

for the pawn to slay its vizier.

Where are kings who dwelt for a time

among its hills and rugged tracts,

overwhelming their guests by emptying moneybags,

and buying horses for their weight in gold?

They have indeed left silent gold behind,

and left it with their treasurers.
