Did you suppose religion’s pillar stood firm upon the earth?
You have established the pillar of religion firmly in the earth
Yet every day it dwindles little by little.
And yet it diminishes slowly day after day

Suhayl, though he is Yemeni, condemns
Suhayl, though the Yemeni denies it
a deed on Syria’s flank that is no trifling matter.
It is not easy to command in the Levant

Before the Creator, I disavow the followers of a creed
I disavow those of the sect
who deem it right to make their womenfolk freely available.
Who see permissibility of the unlawful for their own

Why not, then, an unpolished sword, beneath which may be dyed red
So where is the brave warrior to be speared beneath it?
the gray hair of an aged elder or a middle-aged man?
An elder or aged man with grey hair
وَأَينَand where حُسامُthe keen blade of الهِندِIndia عَنكَfrom you وَجَهلُهُand its reckless fury

جِهادُكَfighting you أَولىmore fitting مِنthan جِهادِfighting أَبيAbu (father of) جَهلِJahl
جِهادُكَ أَولى مِن جِهادِ أَبي جَهلِ
And why are the Indian blade and its reckless fury far from you?
And where is the sword of India against you and its ignorance?
Fighting you is more fitting than fighting Abu Jahl.
Your jihad is better than the jihad of Abu Jahl
