لَعَمري لَقَد بِعنا القَناءَ نُفوسَنا

لَعَمري لَقَد بِعنا القَناءَ نُفوسَنا

بِلا عِوَضٍ عِندَ البِياعِ وَلا ثِنيا

بِلا عِوَضٍ عِندَ البِياعِ وَلا ثِنيا

By my life, we have indeed sold our souls to the spears,

By my life, we have sold our souls

Without recompense at the sale or any right to reclaim them.

At no profit to the buyer nor praise to the seller.

وَلَو بَينَ دُنيانا الدَنيَّةِ خُيِّرَت

وَلَو بَينَ دُنيانا الدَنيَّةِ خُيِّرَت

وَبَينَ سِواها ماءَرادَت سِوى الدُنِّيا

وَبَينَ سِواها ماءَرادَت سِوى الدُنِّيا

And were they given a choice between our lowly world

And if the choice were offered between this base world

And anything else, they would desire nothing but this world.

And another, it would choose none but this base world.
