لَعَمري لَقَد نامَ الفَتى عَن حِمامِهِ

لَعَمري لَقَد نامَ الفَتى عَن حِمامِهِ

إِلى أَن أَتاهُ حَتفُهُ مُتَوَسِّنا

إِلى أَن أَتاهُ حَتفُهُ مُتَوَسِّنا

By my life, the young man indeed slept, heedless of his death,

By my life, the young man slept away from his goal

until his doom came upon him as he dozed.

Until death came to him while he was resting

إِذا ما فَعَلتَ الخَيرَ فَاِجعَلهُ خالِصاً

إِذا ما فَعَلتَ الخَيرَ فَاِجعَلهُ خالِصاً

لِرَبِّكَ وَاِزجُر عَن مَديحِكَ أَلسُنا

لِرَبِّكَ وَاِزجُر عَن مَديحِكَ أَلسُنا

Whenever you do good, do it solely

When you do good, make it sincere

for your Lord, and restrain tongues from praising you.

فَكَونُكَ في هَذي الحَياةِ مُصيبَةٌ

فَكَونُكَ في هَذي الحَياةِ مُصيبَةٌ

يُعَزّيكَ عَنها أَن تَبُرَّ وَتُحسِنا

يُعَزّيكَ عَنها أَن تَبُرَّ وَتُحسِنا

For your existence in this life is a calamity;

For you being in this life an affliction

your consolation for it is to be righteous and do good.

Which consoles you that you excel and do good
