ماnot زالَتِceased to be الروحُthe soul قَبلَbefore اليَومِtoday فيin دَعَةٍease
حَتّىuntil اِستَقَرَّتit settled بِحُكمِby the decree of اللَهِGod فيin الجَسَدِthe body
Before this day, the soul had remained at ease,
until, by God's decree, it settled in the body.
فَالآنَso now تِلكَthat soul وَهَذاand this body مِنfrom قَذىًgrit وَأَذىًand pain
لاnot يُخلِيانِكَthe two leave you free بَلهَlet alone الغِلِّrancor وَالحَسَدِand envy
Now that soul and this body, with their grit and pain,
give you no respite—let alone from rancor and envy.

The ignoble man said to wealth through which he had gained eminence:
“I shall surely honor you; but for you, I would not have gained eminence.”
