أَمّا الصَحابِ فَقَد مَرّوا وَما عادوا

وَبَينَنا بِلِقاءِ المَوتِ ميعادُ

As for the companions, they have passed on and have not returned.

And between us is an appointed time to meet death.

سِرٌّ قَديمٌ وَأَمرٌ غَيرُ مُتَّضِحٍ

أَخذُ المَنايا سِوانا وَهِيَ تارِكَةٌ

قَبيلَنا عَظَّةٌ مِنها وَإِبعادُ
