And when a young man loathes beautiful women and guards against
When a young man dislikes singing girls and fears
a recurring illness, and what he is fed harms him,
The sickness that comes back and pains his feeding,
فَقَدِthen indeed اِنطَوَتhas folded away عَنهُfrom him الحَياةُlife وَكاذِبٌand a liar
مَنwhoever قالَsaid عَنهُabout him يَبيتُhe spends the night وَهوَand he is مُنَعَّمُenjoying comfort
then life has folded itself away from him; and a liar is
Then life has turned away from him, and the one who said
whoever says of him, “He spends the night in comfort.”
He sleeps fulfilled is lying.
رَكِبَhe rode الزَمانَtime إِلىtoward الحِمامِdeath بِرُغمِهِagainst his will
وَرَأىand he saw المَنِيَّةَdeath لَيسَthere is not فيهاin it مَرغَمُhumiliation
He rode time toward death against his will,
He rode the days against their will
and saw that death held no humiliation.
To the baths, and saw death holds no dread.
