أَخو سِفرٍ قَصدُهُ لَحدُهُ

أَخو سِفرٍ قَصدُهُ لَحدُهُ

تَمادى بِهِ السَيرُ حَتّى بَلَغ

تَمادى بِهِ السَيرُ حَتّى بَلَغ

A traveler whose destination is his grave;

Brother of travel, its goal is its end

the journey carried him onward until he arrived.

The journey with it continued until it reached

وَدُنياكَ مِثلُ الإِناءِ الخَبيثِ

وَدُنياكَ مِثلُ الإِناءِ الخَبيثِ

وَصاحِبُها مِثلُ كَلبٍ وَلَغ

وَصاحِبُها مِثلُ كَلبٍ وَلَغ

And your world is like a foul vessel,

And your world is like a wicked vessel

and its companion is like a dog that has lapped from it.

And its companion is like a barking dog
