    O Creator of creation, O You whose generosity is generosity itself.

    O Dispenser of sustenance, sought out in times of need.

    O You who are God, a being unlike any

    other being; through You are things nonexistent and existent.

    كلا ولا والد تدعى ومولود

    Unique and exalted, with neither equal nor support;

    No indeed: You are called neither a father nor one begotten.

    You are exalted above 'where,' 'how,' or 'until,' and above

    division or 'when'; no limits apply to You.

    No place is empty of You, yet no place

    contains You; every place is witnessed by You.

    You see, but are not seen, in this world and the next.

    All-knowing of what the white and the black have concealed.

    You are the Eternal, and no other shares that,

    And the Originator of things; what is originated is finite.

    O worshipped King, no one

    but You, O worshipped One, is worshipped.

    I call upon You with the prayer of one who fears and hopes,

    With good hope in You that fear will be driven away.

    وبعده في جنان الخلد تخليد

    O Lord, grant pardon, kindness, and fulfillment of wishes,

    And afterward, eternal dwelling in the gardens of eternity;

    And sound health amid blessing and favor,

    Throughout life, and a happy fortune from You.

    And God granted me swift travel,

    On that journey, plunging, long-necked camels fold up the trackless waste.

    به أبيت وجنح الليل ممدود

    I rest at noon in her saddle, perched high like a falcon;

    In it I spend the night, with night's wing outstretched.

    And whenever I crossed deserts, beyond them appeared

    Others like them, and deserts many times their number.

    Trackless wastes, with no solace from their wild beasts,

    Nor a watering-place there frequented by the caravan.

    If lions settled there, they would wail from exhaustion,

    And fear of their darkness would kill the wolves.

    لها رفاف وإيغال وتوخيد

    And the hardy she-camels there bound restlessly;

    Theirs are brisk strides, onward drive, and a swift trot.

    And the caravan: some drowsy in the saddle from fatigue,

    And others eager, full of longing and sleeplessness,

    Until the upper Abtah appeared, and we heard

    Layla's clamor; her breast and neck came into view.

    So the caravan proclaimed God's oneness before making camp there,

    And the three-year-old, four-year-old, and old camels rumbled.
