How long these endless hopes and excuses,

through love of this world of mine, with all its baseness?

I have reached life's furthest bounds, yet still

my soul remains in blindness and error.

What a wonder: an old man living in decrepitude,

yet still lost in the folly of youthful passions!

Deafened hearing, molars that have crumbled,

and failing eyesight are the strongest testimony.

gentle graces of pardon, my follies will lead me astray.

they return repentant and hope that You will lift their afflictions,

I call upon You as one in need calls upon the generous.

You are the Generous One; fulfill my needs, my Lord.

Perhaps there will be pardon, kindness, and favors.

I have stretched out, hoping for gifts to be granted.

that You forgive my sin—my deliberate wrongs or mistakes.

Woe to me if no prior favor from You is mine,

bringing salvation and ending in blessedness for me.
