And every vein in my body sets me trembling.

Calling me toward my death; if I rise, it hurries me on.

Or die by drowning, floating upon the deeps,

I shall die upon Surayjī swords amid the battle-dust.

No refuge is at hand, nor any disputing with the Mighty.

And the sweetness of life in its delightful garden?

Nor fortune's reversals, on journeys by day or night.

    Death and far-reaching hope have their battleground;

There is no escaping a fatal fall after the struggle.

And reason and the messengers have come as the proof of proofs.

Against him, through his reason, upheld by decisive proof.

Success is attained only after four things,

And these very things are like steps to the Gardens:

The Chosen One's intercession, after prior grace,

And intention, and the doing of fragrant good deeds.

Wretched, and cast from one distress into another?

Or will a rope stand between me and that gurgling drinking-place?

May Your kindness draw me near to relief.

For You are the most generous one hoped in, whose bounty is sought.

O Lord, send blessings upon the Chosen One, our master,

As long as the light of a radiant, breaking dawn shines.
