وَإِنّ ولوجَ البيت حلٌّ لجحوشٍ
إِذاwhen جاءَhe comes والمتسأذنونand those seeking permission نيامُasleep
إِذا جاءَ والمتسأذنون نيامُ
And indeed, entering the house is permitted to Jahush,
Though you bar your doors from guests in slumber deep
And surely entering the house is lawful for the donkeys,
when he comes while those seeking permission are asleep.
When visitors knock, it's courteous them to greet
If they come while those asking permission are asleep.
فَأهلُfor the people of الحجازِthe Hijaz مَعشرٌa folk قَدalready كرهتهمI have hated them
فَأهلُ الحجازِ مَعشرٌ قَد كرهتهم
وَأهلُand the people of الغضاthe ghada trees (saxaul) قومٌa folk عليّto me كرامِdear; esteemed
وَأهلُ الغضا قومٌ عليّ كرامِ
For the people of the Hijaz are a folk I have come to hate,
The folk of Hejaz I've taken much disdain
For the people of Hijaz are a group I have detested,
and the people of the ghada trees are a folk I hold dear.
Yet Nobles of Ghada I hold in high esteem
And the people of al-Ghada are a folk noble to me.
