It was as though my right hand, when I tried to stretch it out

My hand when I tried to extend it

to bid my beloved farewell, while love shed tears,

To bid farewell to my friend as tears of passion flowed

يمين ابن عمران وقد حاول العصا

وقد جعلت تلك العصا حية تسعى

وقد جعلت تلك العصا حية تسعى

were the right hand of the son of Imran as he reached for the staff,

Was like the hand of the son of Imran when he tried his staff

when that staff had been turned into a slithering serpent.

And made that staff a living serpent gliding

وقائلة هل تملك الصبر بعدهم

وقائلة هل تملك الصبر بعدهم

فقلت لها لا والذي أخرج المرعى

فقلت لها لا والذي أخرج المرعى

And a woman asked, “Can you be patient after their departure?”

It said to me, can you have patience after them?

So I told her, “No, by Him who brought forth the pasture.”
