أقول لليلة فيها أتاني

حبيب في مصارحتي لجوجُ

حبيب في مصارحتي لجوجُ

I say to a night in which there came to me

I say to the night when my beloved came to me

A beloved, insistent on speaking frankly with me:

Stubborn in confessing his love

أياليلي الذي ما كنت تفنى

أياليلي الذي ما كنت تفنى

قصرت وكنت قدماً ما تروجُ

قصرت وكنت قدماً ما تروجُ

O my night, which never used to end,

Oh my night that seemed eternal

You have grown short, though formerly you would not pass.

How brief you were, your feet unmoving

أيأجوج اذا نحن التقينا

أيأجوج اذا نحن التقينا

وأيام التهاجر أنت عوجُ

وأيام التهاجر أنت عوجُ

Are you Yaʾjuj when we meet,

Oh beloved, when we come together

While in days of estrangement you are ʿUj?

Those estranged days, you become unbent
