    Your warfare is victory, with no 'but for' to mar it.

    And your sword is shade that no sun can shrink.

    You have dealt fairly with your age, embracing its days

    With glory from you, singling out no day.

    So in God's cause you wear out the mail and leave it threadbare.

    And in God's cause you make the sword dear and cheap.

    Resolves pure in the path of God,

    And no resolve has become pure unless you purify it.

    فَظِلُّ طَاعَتِهِ بِالسَّيفِ يَمحَصُهُ

    Protective wrath—his jealous zeal has robbed him of his senses;

    So he purifies the shade of his obedience with the sword.
