لَمّا تَحَقَّقَ أنَّ قَلبي خانَني

لَمّا تَحَقَّقَ أنَّ قَلبي خانَني

فيهِ تَلَقّاني بِسَيفِ عِتابِهِ

فيهِ تَلَقّاني بِسَيفِ عِتابِهِ

When he became certain that my heart had betrayed me

When he was sure my heart had failed me,

concerning him, he met me with the sword of his reproach.

He there assailed me with his blade of blame.

قالوا تَعَلَّل إِن بَقيتَ بِوَعدِهِ

قالوا تَعَلَّل إِن بَقيتَ بِوَعدِهِ

هَيهاتَ غَيري غَرَّهُ بِسَرابِهِ

هَيهاتَ غَيري غَرَّهُ بِسَرابِهِ

They said, "If you survive, take comfort in his promise."

“Make some excuse!” they said, “if still you cleave to his word -

Far from it! He deceived someone other than me with his mirage.

Never! None but I is fooled by his mirage.”
