ما لَكَ يا إِبليسُ مِن خَلفِنا

تَطلُبُنا بِالماءِ وَالزادِ

What is it with you, O Iblis, behind us,

What is wrong with you, O Iblees, to pursue us

pursuing us with water and provisions?

With water and provision?

أَمسِ مِنَ الجَنَّةِ أَخرَجتَنا

أَمسِ مِنَ الجَنَّةِ أَخرَجتَنا

بحيَّةٍ من ذلك الوادي

بحيَّةٍ من ذلك الوادي

Yesterday you drove us out of Paradise

Yesterday, you expelled us from Paradise

with a serpent from that valley.

With a serpent from that valley,

واليومَ قد عادت إلى جنةٍ

واليومَ قد عادت إلى جنةٍ

مِن وَجَناتٍ ذاتِ إيقادِ

مِن وَجَناتٍ ذاتِ إيقادِ

And today it has returned to a garden

of cheeks aglow with fire.

Of gardens with kindling.

بِالأَمسِ في إِخراجِهِ والِداً

وَاليَومَ في إِخراجِ أَولادِ

Yesterday, in his casting out a father,

and today, in the casting out of children.

تُريدُ أَن تُهبِطَنا ثانِياً

إِلى مَتى أَنتَ بِمِرصادِ

يا شَيخُ سِر عَنّا فَفي دَهرِنا

ما جاءَ مَعشوقٌ بِقَوّادِ

O old man, leave us, for in our time
