نَفَينا سَوادَ اللَيلِ عَن دَولَةِ الهُدى

نَفَينا سَوادَ اللَيلِ عَن دَولَةِ الهُدى

فَلا رايَةٌ سَودا وَلا أُمَّةٌ سَودا

فَلا رايَةٌ سَودا وَلا أُمَّةٌ سَودا

We banished the blackness of night from the realm of guidance.

We banished the night's darkness from the land of guidance

Thus no black banner remains, nor any black nation.

No banner there is black, no nation dressed in black

وَبَينَ مُجازاةٍ ضَرَبنا وَجِزيَةٍ

وَبَينَ مُجازاةٍ ضَرَبنا وَجِزيَةٍ

فَمِن طائِعٍ أَدّى وَمِن خالِعٍ أَودى

فَمِن طائِعٍ أَدّى وَمِن خالِعٍ أَودى

And we imposed either retribution or tribute:

And in lieu of punishment, we set a tribute

Some obeyed and paid; others rebelled and perished.

So those who bowed, fulfilled it, and those who rebelled, were slain
