وَعَزَّزَand reinforced إِرزامَthe rumbling of المُلِثِّthe persistently raining cloud بِثالِثِwith a third
Their dwelling wept, and the lovesick lover weeps over its obliteration.
Their abode wept, and dawn wept its desolation,
And he reinforced the persistent raincloud’s rumbling with a third lament.
And bolstered the rhymes of parting with a third,
وَلَمand did not يَستَمِعhear فيهاin it أَحاديثَtales of مُرسِلٍa messenger
وَلَكِنbut رَأىhe saw فيهاin it حَديثَthe tale of الحَوادِثِcalamities
And he heard no messenger’s tales within it,
No fabricated tales were listened to therein,
But saw within it the tale of calamities.
But the chronicles of events were seen instead.
وَقَدand indeed كانَhe was مَبعوثاًsent إِلَيهاto it مِنَby الصَباthe east wind
فَأَقعَدَهُso it held him back عَنهاfrom it قُعودُthe inactivity of البَواعِثِthe impelling forces
And he had been sent to it by the east wind,
It had sent him forth, from the days of youth,
So the inactivity of the impelling forces held him back from it.
But the motives for departure made him stay.
