The world glories in your reign and takes pride.
And the heights call for your sword and await it.

Though the world has wronged us and offered us no apology,
You give to us, and we are the ones who apologize.

فَتَستَعيرُso they borrow سَناهُhis radiance حينَwhen تَستَعِرُthey blaze
As for the stars and the shining lights,
They borrow his radiance when they blaze.
وَجهٌa face نَدىthe generosity بِشرِهِof its cheerfulness مِفتاحُthe key to كُلِّevery مُنىwish

A face whose cheerful generosity opens every wish,
However steep its pursuit or stubborn its lock.

For every thirsty soul, his water offers a breath of life;
In every darkness, his face is a moon.
مُستَعظَمُdeemed magnificent الخَبَرِthe report المَسموعِheard إِذwhen ظَفِرَتbeheld

The reports I heard seemed magnificent until my eyes
Beheld his face, and the reports seemed small.
قَدindeed كانَit had يَبلُغُreached سَمعيmy hearing مِنof مَكارِمِهِhis noble deeds
ماwhat قُلتُI said هَيهاتَhow unlikely أَنthat يَحظىmight attain بِذاsuch things بَشَرُa mortal
Word of his noble deeds had reached my ears,
And I said, ‘How could any mortal attain such things?’
فَالحَمدُso praise لِلَهِbe to God حَمداًpraise غَيرَwithout مُقتَصِرٍlimit
إِنfor قَصَّرَfell short السَمعُhearing عَمّاof what نالَهُsight gained النَظَرُsight
So praise be to God, praise without limit,
For hearing fell short of what sight has gained.
فيin كُلِّevery سَمعٍear لَهُof him مِنfrom شاكِرٍa grateful person خَبَرٌan account

In every ear is an account of him from someone grateful;
In every palm is a trace of him for someone hopeful.

فَاليَومَso today قَدindeed جُمِعَتwere gathered ليfor me عِندَهُin his presence الخِيَرُgood things
I used to seek a way to win a visit with him;
Today, in his presence, all good things have come together for me.
مَكارِمٌnoble deeds لاcannot يَنالُreach الحَصرُcounting غايَتَهاtheir limit
فَلاso no عَجيبٌwonder إِذاwhen ماindeed نالَنيovertakes me الحَصَرُspeechlessness
His noble deeds are more than counting can encompass;
No wonder, then, that words fail me.

Here are the springs, and hopes come to drink;
Let their clear water make you forget what murkiness has wrought.
مَوارِدٌsprings بِبُروقِwith flashes of البِشرِwelcome قَدindeed مُزِجَتwere mingled

Springs mingled with flashes of welcome—
Just as clouds hold both lightning and rain.

The light of his brow has left its glow upon their water.
How beautifully this modesty has guarded generosity!
