الدارُthe dwelling راحِلَةٌdeparting عَلىalong آثارِهِمْtheir tracks
فَلِمَنso to whom أُسائِلُshall I ask بَعدُafterward عَنabout أَخبارِهِمْtheir news
The dwelling is departing in their wake.
So whom shall I ask hereafter for news of them?
وَالنَفسُand the soul راحِلَةٌdeparting عَلىalong أَثَرَيهِماthe tracks of them both
فَإِذاso behold الرَحيلُdeparture بِهِمwith them وَبيand with me وَبِدارِهِمand with their dwelling
And the soul departs in the tracks of them both.
So behold: departure carries them, me, and their dwelling away.

O Time, you are not sated by what you have kindled of
my fire, and what you have quenched of theirs.

And my blood is among their sins; I wished that
I might be made to bear some of their sins on the Day of Gathering.

O delight of the breast whose secret they are,
and refreshment from their secrets gladdens me.

God be their protector, despite the injustice that
they apportioned, beginning with their neighbor's share.

If my lifespan were free of any taint,
I would offer its pure portion to their lifespans.

Comforted by passing thoughts, I spent the night remembering them,
desolate in the darkness, bereft of their moons.
