صَفاgrew serene الدَهرُthe age فيin مُلكِthe reign of العَزيزِal-ʿAzīz بنِson of يوسُفٍYūsuf
صَفا الدَهرُ في مُلكِ العَزيزِ بنِ يوسُفٍ
فَلَمso did not يَبقَremain فيهِin it لِلشَوائِبِof the blemishes باقِa remnant
فَلَم يَبقَ فيهِ لِلشَوائِبِ باقِ
The age grew serene under the reign of al-ʿAzīz ibn Yūsuf,
The days have been bright in the reign of al-'Aziz, son of Yusuf,
so no trace of blemishes remained in it.
So that no blemish has remained in it.
فَلاthus no عَقرَبٌscorpion إِلّاexcept بِخَدِّon the cheek of مَليحَةٍa beautiful woman
فَلا عَقرَبٌ إِلّا بِخَدِّ مَليحَةٍ
وَلاand no جَورَinjustice إِلّاexcept فيin وِلايَةِthe rule of ساقِa cupbearer
وَلا جَورَ إِلّا في وِلايَةِ ساقِ
Thus no scorpion exists except on a beautiful woman's cheek,
There is no scorpion but in the cheek of a fair maid,
and no injustice except under a cupbearer's rule.
No tyranny but under the sway of her leg.
