يا ذاكِراً أَهلَ النَدى مِن قَبلِهِ

عِندي الحَديثُ وَعِندَكَ البُرهانُ

O you who remember the people of al-Nada before

I have the words and you have the proof

شَتّانَ ما قَولٌ لِعَينِكَ هَذِهِ

يَدُهُ وَقَولُكُم لِسَمعي كانوا

Far apart is what these eyes of yours say

And what your words tell my hearing
