أَحبابَناO our beloveds لَوif رُزِقتُI was granted الصَبرَpatience بَعدَكُمُafter your departure
لَماwould not have رَضيتُI accepted بِهِwith it عَنfor قُربِكُمnearness to you عِوَضاas a substitute
O our beloveds, had I been granted patience after your departure,
I would not have accepted it as a substitute for nearness to you.
إِنّيindeed I لِأَعجَبُtruly marvel أَنّيthat I بَعدَafter فُرقَتِكُمseparation from you
ماnot صَحَّgrew well جِسمِيَmy body إِلّاexcept that زادَنيincreased my مَرَضاillness
I truly marvel that, after parting from you,
my body never grows well without making me more ill.
أُنبيكُمُI tell you عَنfrom يَقينٍcertainty أَنَّthat قَلبِيَmy heart لَوif

I tell you with certainty that if my heart
were in place of a bird’s two wings, it would take flight.
هَذاthis وَلَوyet if أَنَّهُthat it بِالعَهدِto the pledge فيكَconcerning you وَفىwas faithful
لَكانَit would have حينَwhen قَضىdecreed اللَهُGod الفِراقَseparation قَضىdied
Even so, had it kept its pledge to you,
it would have died when God decreed separation.
