O bearer of my heart—it had been his dwelling—

Though parting’s cruelty had left it desolate.

I marveled at a dwelling that, in loyalty to its people,

Hastened to depart when they sought departure.

Whenever my eyelid streams blood along with my tears,

I know that the heart has fallen slain.

For the heart is but a resting place for sorrows,

And the eyelid but a channel for tears.
